SSM2142 Stability

Post by mediatechnology »

Until now, I have never seen the tip Jung provides to stabilize an SSM2142. This is not in the datasheet.

Note the addition of C1 and C2 which are 68 pF from each output to ground.

What I saw driving long lines that were shorted on the far end was an inductive rise in frequency response at the shorted output.
I suspected that this may have been what caused oscillation that some people have reported with the SSM2142 and DRV134 cross-coupled outputs.
Pre-loading capacitors from each output to ground appear to reduce that rise. To my knowledge this is the only place I've seen this published.
