Re: Starting point
OK Iain you nailed it 100%. Very good analysis. You've done an Ohms law and power calculation. You can right click and save that Benchmark schematic and load it into the windows viewer for a bigger zoom. Al drew that one BTW in pencil and handed it to me. On pink paper it didn't scan too well. Take ...

High-Value Resistors for Mic Builders and Tempcos for Synths
I'm stocking a couple of hard-to-find resistors that some members here may eventually need. For the mic builder I currently have a few 2G ohm (for the search engines who visit us 2000 Mohm). I'm almost sold out of these but I have a few 1Gohm on the way with more backordered. These are Vishay RNX03...

Re: Starting point
lofi Can you do an Ohm's law calculation or calculate power? I would think that's probably the most basic thing I use. Somewhere I recall a circle-looking thing that had all the variables, R, E, I and P with the formulas inside the circle. Probably the second-most often used calculation by me is cap...

Re: hello... anybody home?
Cool! I used to do work with Wink Tyler and Larry Siler. Wink sold his SSL and studio off Ben White and moved up north to Roundrock I think. I haven't seen his new place yet. I don't make it to Austin much any more. I do want to make a trip to Wimberly if I can get an invite. About the furthest sout...

Re: Starting point
My general advice is to dive in and melt some solder. Of course don't start at the deepest end of the pool, it takes time to get up to speed, but once you reach a critical mass of understanding things will fall in place and start making sense. That's really how I did it too. I've been interested in...

Re: Starting point
Have you every looked at "The Art of Electronics" Horowitz & Hill? That's one of the most recommended books around. If you can find a copy of Walt Jung's "Op Amp Cookbook" get one. They're out of print but still available. Walt has some sources on his website and there's a lo...

Re: A Matrix-Based Pan Pot With Variable Width
Thank you for your reply. You are correct. Your example (and the demo) have a high pass filter in the insert so the image collapses to mono as the frequency lowers. Other insert options could use dynamics processing so the signal widens vs. level. Time delay, reverb etc could also be used. The "...
